ANTI-WRINKLE

The aim of an anti-wrinkle injection is to reduce the muscle’s ability to activate. This reduces the appearance of the existing wrinkle and prevents new lines from developing. To achieve this, small amounts of anti-wrinkle product, made from a purified protein, are injected into the particular muscle in equal incriments. This causes a chemical reaction that minimises the release of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine, relaxing muscle activity. The result of this treatment is, a smoother complexion and minimisation of fine lines. On average you will notice results in about 5 days’ post treatment with full effects in about 2 weeks. Your anti-wrinkle treatment will last for a total of approximately 3-4 months.

Side effects:

Whilst all steps are taken to minimise side effects, some of the below side effects could occur:

Eyelid drooping – Alhough rare, the eyelids may droop as a result of product migrating into the upper eyelid muscle. Product migration may also occur in other areas of the face.

Brow drooping – Known as ptosis, can occur when product migrates into a muscle not intended for treatment. This can create a temporary downward effect of the brow. Again, this is a rare side effect and can be avoided with the use of a particular injection technique and post treatment care.

Bruising – The face is a highly vascular region, meaning there are many tiny blood vessels in the face. These tiny blood vessels supply oxygenated blood to the tissues. Given the highly vascular nature of the face, at times the contact between the needle and blood vessel can sometimes occur. In this instance some minor bruising can occur. Rest assured, that specific techniques are utilised to avoid and minimise bruising.

Pre treatment:

Avoid any chemical peels or skin needling for 7 days prior

On the day of consultation it is important that you advise us of any blood thinning medications (e.g Aspirin, Warfarin, Clopidigrel).

Please remove all make up on areas to be treated.

Post treatment:

Immediately post anti-wrinkle treatment maximise your facial activity (by frowning, squinting & raising your eyebrows). This helps to work the product into the treated muscle.

Avoid rigorous exercise and alcohol consumption for 24 hours post treatments as this can sometimes cause temporary redness and swelling around the injection site.

DERMAL FILLER

Dermal fillers are modified forms of Hyaluronic Acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin that delivers nutrients and helps the skin retain moisture, softness, and volume. When used cosmetically, dermal fillers can help plump thin lips, enhance shallow contours, add volume to cheeks, soften facial creases, remove wrinkles and improve the appearance of scaring.
The cosmetic filler itself is a smooth gel which is placed within the dermis to correct and contour medium-depth facial wrinkles and loss of volume while helping you achieve optimal facial aesthetics. Results last anywhere from 6 to 24 months depending on the filler type.

Side effects:

There are some common side effects with dermal fillers which can include; swelling, brusing, tenderness and itchiness around the treated area. These side effects are temporary and usually resolve within a few days.

In rare cases, discoloration and infection can occur. During your consultation you will be comprehensively briefed on what signs to look out for that may be of concern.

Pre treatment:

Avoid any chemical peels or skin needling for 7 days prior

On the day of consultation it is important that you advise us of any blood thinning medications (e.g Aspirin, Warfarin, Clopidigrel).

Post treatment:

Avoid any rigorous exercise or alcohol consumption for 24 hours post treatment. No massaging or applying pressure to the treated area. Apply ice to the treated area for 5-10 minutes each hour for the first 6 hours. This will help reduce swelling.

You may notice some palpable lumps at the treated site. Please do not massage these(unless instructed to do so by Novaes). These lumps will subside within the next 2 days as the product stabilises in the tissue.
